Growth – The Word of The Year

“If you’re not losing friends, you’re not growing up”

I never understood what this meant until recently; because every next level of your life will demand a different you.

We’re like snakes. Each layer of skin that we shed reveals a new you; but the person you are, doesn’t really change. Those layers you shed off are just habits and choices.

I found myself in my mind a lot, call it overthinking if you like, but these are things that I was noticing with those around me and especially what was going on within myself.

When I turned 29, I said I would use this year to create paths and set the first stone for my life after 30.

I clearly didn’t know what I was even saying or why turning 30 was such a big deal anyway… Now I do.

Because of the changes I am making, there are parts of me that are shifting. There are things that are new to me and new to others, which is a little confusing but understandable.

And it’s all part of growth.

You are not the same person you were a year ago, 5 years ago and you’re definitely not the same person when you were born. Your mind grew, your body grew, your personality grew.

But the growth everyone’s talking about for 2018 is personal growth. Physically, mentally and financially, the 3 main out of all 7 areas in life. Taking better care of your health, spending more time with your family, working smarter and making more money etc.

So if you find yourself in a place where your friend circle’s shifting, your relationships are getting stronger, you’re spending more time alone, more time with your folks, or less time partying and more time reading, you’re not becoming old and boring (like I thought I was), you’re just growing and turning into a more authentic version of yourself.
