Day 24 – #NaBloPoMo

This post was supposed to be about my brother, it’s his birthday today. So Riz, I’m sorry, a quick Happy Birthday to you! But I need to say something far more important here, which you’re aware of (love you mingi mingi sana and promise to post about you for Day 25 xxx).

We were sitting watching The Amazing Spiderman, it was just after 11PM when my neighbour sent me a text saying “Hey Sadia, Just be on the lookout, we were robbed today”. I freaked out and sent her a text back asking when and where? It didn’t deliver so I told mum guys that I just got a text and I’m going to their place to see if they’re ok.

Strangely, mum mentioned that some two women came over today asking for some Andrew Shah and mum said they’ve got the wrong house.

I opened the door and cops were here talking to our next door neighbour. I went down and she told me the story of what happened.

These women have apparently been lurking in our estate since 8AM. They’ve been going door to door asking everyone the same question then saying “we’re probably in the wrong building“. But hoping that when they knock at the door, no one answers.

These women had a MASTER KEY. How the fuck do they get a master key?

The robbery took place between 6-7PM.

They went out for dinner at 6 and one of them came back at 7.15 and found the house clean. 6 MacBook’s gone and every Apple product they could find.

They JUST had friends fly in TODAY from Kampala and went for dinner to Brew Bistro and came home to this madness.

They stole an iPod which is like 4 years old, that was plugged in a Bose speaker/player and left that.

Mum says they couldn’t even speak English that well.

It’s RIDICULOUS. What has been considered one of the safest places in Nairobi is suddenly Central Crime District.

If you look back at my archives for September 2013 you’ll read not only about Westgate but about an incident that occurred outside our estate. And if you jump to November 2010, you’ll find another incident that occurred in the same estate.

We’ve lived here for 12 years, YEARS. Not only doesn’t it prove how USELESS or how INVOLVED the security company/guards is/are but also shows how INSECURE the area has become and how shit seems to have hit the fan ever since the new Government’s taken “form”.

Christmas being round the corner, we’re obviously expecting HIGHER crime rates, but what the hell is our security gonna do about it?

Kenya needs to wake the fuck up.

I’m taking part in the National Blog Posting Month! I’ve committed to posting something everyday till the 30th of November! Hope you enjoy the absolute random reads and would love feedback too! Feel free to drop a comment at the bottom.
