Day 12 – #NaBloPoMo

The Nairobi weather off late has been interesting. It starts raining at around 6. Sometimes throughout the  night. Cold mornings, and then immense heat during the day and back to the cycle.

The interesting yet challenging part for many, I’m presuming, is how to dress for the weather.

It’s that time of the year when all the brolly’s come out, the boots, and sweaters and jackets.

But that got me thinking as well.

Not everyone does that. Some actually love the cold and don’t feel cold in the cold, but adapt pretty well. You’ll find them wearing normal clothes like you would on any other day.

Some actually don’t even care about the way they look, as long as they’re feeling comfortable.

Comfort. Ha.

If I could walk into the office between Monday and Friday in flip flops, shorts and a t-shirt on a hot day, trust me, I would!

Give me the chance to wear my Harem Pants (which many think are pajamas!) and a cool tee, I will, in a heart beat!

I got categorized as a hippie by a bunch of friends earlier this year and then they were like ok maybe not totally a hippie but a bit of one.

I just love to chill (chill means hippie?).

Hence the outdoors, the camping, the messy hair and what not. I just love the whole chilled, natural feel.

And to be able to bring that to the office, is the best feeling ever!

I get away with it on Sunday’s though. 1.) It’s Sunday 2.) I’m in the studio, not the office.

During the week I throw in the sundress once a week, or the casual top and jeans and Maasai flip-flops with a nice throw-over and dangling chains.

Fashion’s wide. There’s what’s trending and what looks good on you.

If you’re going through that, in Nairobi or whatever city you’re in, don’t let your surroundings and what’s on TV affect your image.

Everyone’s unique and that’s what makes life even more fun. What you have to offer, has to got to be something someone out there wishes they could do.

So hell to those stiletto’s and pencil skirts and waist belts. Hello to the casual tops and chains and jeans and flats!

Dress for your comfort and your personality and for you. Whether it’s hot or cold. You’re not here to please anyone (especially that guy! He ought to like you for the real you!).
