Categorised as a “peoples person”. People say ah very social. Networks well. I suppose to some extent, I am.
Yes, I love meeting new people. I love learning about new cultures. I love going out. I love camping. My number one mission every month is to get the hell out of Nairobi. And so far this year, I’ve managed pretty well *pats herself on the back*
But on the other hand… I get irritated easily. Bored easily. I go through multiple phases every so often. And yes, it may be harmful. To those around me and to me, myself and I.
I do this social media blackout once in a while. I’ll go off Twitter, I’ll go off Facebook. Just to cleanse my mind. Just to be in touch with the real world and not the virtual world.
Currently off WhatsApp. Ahhhh… The idle chatters. Who start with “Hi” and leave it there for you to respond. Sweetheart, ask me a question after that, I’m not gonna reply Hi or Hello back. The other thing is being “available” all the time – Easy access to speak to someone, because well, you can ignore a phone call and not reply to an SMS but as soon as those two ticks go off and you were “last seen” two minutes ago… All hell breaks loose! You read my message and you never replied. You’ve been online 10 times today and couldn’t think of even saying a hello to me?
Facebook… The Kingdom of Gossip and Stalkers. Oh look, he’s dating her now. Oh wow she’s fat, I bet nobody would wanna get with that. Ohhhhh I wanna go to Diani tooooooo! And let’s not mention the relatives! Or maybe we should… Ohhhhhhhhhh the RELATIVES!!! Look at her, she’s at a bar with so many boys. He’s got a glass in his hand, looks like he’s drinking. I think she smokes. I think he does drugs. They’re together in so many pictures, they’re probably dating. Oh she works here now. Like STFU!!!
Twitter… Where you speak your mind but still get judged for it. Hey, you sound really upset, are you ok? Ohhh she looks hot *Say it with a Paki accent* let me tell her what I feel “hey baby I love you”. *recives SMS* hey so I saw your Tweet and I was wondering if we’re cool because it sounds like you’re directing it toward me. WTF? Well honey! If the shoe fits!
My point is there’s SO many ways of communicating these days and the misconception and the misunderstandings that come along with it are just ANNOYING!
Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, BBM, Viber, Skype etc the list doesn’t seem to end. There’s always some new form or way of communicating (says the woman writing a blog post that will go directly to her Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+).
Technology is moving so fast. Every situation or every application every person and every country has its pro’s and conn’s. So obviously technology has the same. The whole point is to find your balance.
And I suppose hence why a detox or a diet from the internet is somewhat needed.
Just like taking leave from work, going on vacation with friends to get a break from home, or spending time indoors to avoid the crazy nights.
It’s all about balancing stuff out.
I’m taking part in the National Blog Posting Month! I’ve committed to posting something everyday till the 30th of November! Hope you enjoy the absolute random reads and would love feedback too! Feel free to drop a comment at the bottom.
